Linking Different sheets

To link to a location in the current workbook or another workbook, you can either define a name for the destination cells or use a cell reference. To use a name, you should first assign a name to a cell or cell range in the destination workbook. Let’s modify the workbook we have used in the previous example. Rename the sheet1 to student and sheet2 to Courses. Here is the courses sheet

Now select the cell A1, go to Insert menu, select Name ---> Define. Define name window will be open for you give a name in the Names in the Workbook and click Add In this case give the name course1. Refer to textbox displays the cell’s address or cell range to which the name refers.

· Navigate to student workbook, select the C3 cell containing the text "D001", right click and select Hyperlink from the shortcut menu. Now do one of the following:

To link to a location in your current workbook, click Place in this document under Link to option.

To link to a location in another workbook, click Existing file or Web page.

· If you chose Existing file or Web page in previous step, then locate and select the workbook you want to link to, and then click the Bookmark button under Browse for, even if you choose the Place in this Document you will get the same window as shown in the following figure 3.11.

Do one of the following:

· In the list under Cell Reference, click the sheet you want to link to, and then type the cell reference in the Type in the cell reference box. Click OK.

· In the list under Defined Names, click the name that represents the cell or cells you want to link to. Click OK.

In our case select course1 present under the Defined Names list. and click OK. Now the cell C3 of Student sheet is linked to the A3(course1) cell of the courses sheet, when you will place the cursor on this cell cursor will become a hand showing that this cell is linked.

Change the destination of a hyperlink

· Right-click the hyperlink you want to change, point to Hyperlink on the shortcut menu, and then click Edit Hyperlink

Deactivate a hyperlink

· Right-click on the hyperlink you want to deactivate, point to Hyperlink on the shortcut menu, and then click Remove Hyperlink.
