Creating Simple Animations With Fireworks

We’ll explore the process of Tweening by creating a very simple animation in Fireworks.  Select File/New and create a document that’s 300 pixels wide by 200 high with a transparent background.  You can only Tween Instances so we must create a New Symbol or convert an already existing object into a Symbol.  For this example we’ll create a New Symbol so select Insert/New Symbol.  A Symbol Editing Window will appear.  Select your text tool, set your character size to 25, and input the word "Animation" into the Document Window.  Close the window and the word is added to your Library.

Drag your "Animation" Symbol from the Library to your Document Window. With one Instance on our screen we can apply a pre-packaged animation by selecting Command/Animation from the Menu bar.  Select your Symbol and try applying a "Rotate and Scale" command. Fireworks will create 10 frames of animation in which your text rotates 360 degrees and disappears into the distance.  Click on the Play button in the Animation Controller in the bottom right corner of your document to play the Frame content and test your animation.

If you select your Frames Panel you will notice that the "Rotate and Scale" Command has created 10 frames for the animation.  Click on individual Frames to see how the Command has ordered the content from Frame to Frame.
