As
you become comfortable with Fireworks you may find
that you use some tools and panels more than others. Macromedia has
taken this into account by giving the user the ability
to customize their workspace. The Toolbox, Panels,
and the icon set of the Menu Bar can be docked
and undocked. If you would like to undock the
Toolbox simply {Click} an area with-in it that isn’t
taken up by an icon, hold and drag. Drop it
where you want to place it. The Toolbox is now
undocked. To dock it, simply {Click}, hold,
and drag it back to its original location. You
can dock and undock the "Main" and "Modify" menus
in the same way. The Toolbox can be docked on
either the left or right side of your workspace. The
"Main" and "Modify" menus can be docked at the top,
bottom, left or right side of your screen.

(Figure 2.16 The Fireworks workspace with various
elements undocked.)

(Figure
2.17 The "Main" and "Modify" menu docked with the
drop down menu across the top.)
To
undock a Panel from a Panel set, you {Click} on the
tab of the panel you need and drag it. To dock
it, {Click}on the panel’s tab, hold, and drag the
item back to its original location. You can mix
and match panel sets by docking and undocking individual
panels. Potentially you could create one giant
panel set containing every single panel.

(Figure 2.18 )
({Clicking}
the Info Tab and dragging will undock the Info Panel from
this Panel set.)
If
you wish to restore the layout of your panels and
menus back to their default setting you must go into
your Fireworks program folder and delete the Fireworks3.ini
file. The program will create a brand new initialization
file the next time you open it.
To
save a custom Panel layout, select Commands/Panel
Layout…

(Figure 2.19 Selection of panel layout from Command
menu)
The
Save Panel Layout dialog box appears. Input
a name for the Panel Layout and {Click} "OK". For
this example we have named out layout "Advertising
Project".

(Figure 2.20)
Your
custom Panel Layout is automatically restored the
next time you launch Fireworks. In addition your
custom Panel layout now appears in the Commands/Panel
Layout Sets menu. Select the name of your custom
Panel set to restore it.

(Figure 2.21)
)We’ll
be using the default layout throughout this book.
You
can also resize the Panels. For example, the
Swatches Panel can be used at the default size,
or, you can drag any of the corners or sides of the
Panel window to increase or decrease its size.
