Using
Layers
Access
the "unit007" folder and open both "fuji.png" and
"clouds.png" open. Make "fuji.png" active.
Make
a Marquee Selection around the mountain in "fuji.png"
or select Edit/Select All from the Menu Bar. Select
"Edit/Copy" to copy the contents of your Selection
to the clipboard. The clipboard is Firework’s
storage area for image data you copy and paste.
Make
"clouds.png" active and select the cloud Layer. Click
on the New/Duplicate Layer button at the bottom of
the Layer Panel and create a new Layer. Fireworks
automatically titles the Layer "Layer." {Double-Click}
the Layer and rename it "fuji." Select
"Edit/Paste." A dialog box appears asking you
if you would like to resample the content that you
are about to paste. We would like to keep the
mountain as a vector graphic so choose "no resample."
Your Selection (the mountain) is pasted into "clouds.png". Alternately,
you can use the Move Tool to {Click}, drag, and drop
your selection from "fuji.png" to "clouds.png." Or
import it directly into the document using "File/Import".
If you click and drag the content from one document
to another you will find it placed within the currently
selected Layer as opposed to a new Layer. In
order to best illustrate the mechanics of Layers it
would be better if the content were copied and pasted
into the "clouds.png" document.
