¨ Opening A Presentation
If a presentation has already been saved and you want to display it on screen, you must use one of the following two methods:

¨ Saving A Presentation
When you want to save a copy of your presentation for future use, follow these instructions:
Select the File menu, and then click on Save as. The following dialogue box will appear:

(Figure 3.10)

In the File Name box below , type the name of your presentation. This name must be 8 characters or less. POWERPOINT will automatically assign a .ppt extension to your file. At this point, you should already know how to change the file directory. Once you have typed the name of your file, another dialogue box is displayed, in which you will type the presentation title, subject, author, key words and comments. You do not have to complete all the fields. When you are done, regardless of how many fields you left empty, click on OK.
When you save a document for the first time, you can use this button
or select Save from the File menu. However, if the document has already been saved, these methods will simply re-save the file with the same (original) name, without providing you with an opportunity to change the file name.
¨ Closing A Presentation
You may want to close a presentation to free some of your computer’s random-access memory or simply because you are not using that particular presentation.
Access the File menu and select Close. If you have never saved your presentation, PowerPoint will display the following box to ask if you want to save your presentation. If you answer yes, you must complete the save box as explained in a previous section
¨ Updating A Presentation
If a presentation has already been saved and you want to keep the same file name, click on this button or use the Save option in the File menu. If you use either of these methods, you will not be given the option of changing the file name. Instead, any previously saved (and therefore previously named) presentation will be saved automatically under its original name.
