Windows95/98

File or folder that shortcut refers to cannot be found

This error message appears when the shortcut is available, but the program it calls is missing. A shortcut is a link that points to another file. It works like a television remote control. Try to use the remote control (shortcut) to a television (program) that has been moved to a different room – or even thrown in the garbage!

How do I correct the error?

If the program or file the shortcut links to is still on the computer, Windows suggests possible matches and offers the opportunity to search for it.

1.     Click "Browse" to search for the file.

2.     Click "Yes" if you see a message suggesting a match that fits.

3.     Click "No" if the match found by the computer is incorrect. (Did somebody throw away         your television?)
