The Print Manager

The print manager is the set of tools for installing and using printers attached to your computer directly or through a network.

When would I use the print manager?

Use the print manager to control your printer hardware and print jobs.

Some basic print manager functions

1.     Install a printer

2.     Print a test page

3.     Set a default printer.

4.     Control single or multiple print jobs.

5.     Pause printing.

How do I use the print manager?

 

 

Access the print manager:

 

1.     Click the "Start" menu.

2.     Click "Settings" on the Start menu.

3.     Click "Printers" on the sub-menu.

 

Install a printer:

 

1.     Open the print manager.

2.     Double-click the "Add Printer" icon.

3.     Follow the instructions in the "Add Printer Wizard" that appears

 

Print a test page:

 

1.     Turn on the printer attached to your computer.

2.     Open the print manager.

3.     Right-click the icon for the printer you are using.

4.     Click "Properties" on the menu that appears

5.     Click "Print Test Page" on the General tab of the Properties window.

 

View jobs waiting to print:

 

1.     Open the print manager.

2.     Double-click the icon for the printer you are using. The print queue window appears,         listing any files waiting to be printed.

 

Pause printing:

 

1.     Open the print manager.

2.     Right-click the icon for the printer you are using.

3.     Click "Pause Printing" on the menu.

4.     Resume printing by clicking "Pause Printing" again.

 

Set a printer as the default printer:

 

1.     Open the print manager.

2.     Right-click the icon for the printer you are using.

3.     Click "Set as Default" on the menu. Files printed without indicating a specific printer         automatically are sent to the printer selected as the default.

 

Create a shortcut to a printer:

 

1.     Open the print manager.

2.     Right-click the icon for the printer you are using.

3.     Click "Create Shortcut" on the menu.

4.     Click "Yes" in the message box to create the shortcut on the desktop.

5.     Print documents by dragging them onto the printer shortcut.
