Windows95/98

Fonts and TrueType Fonts

A font is a complete typeset or character style of one size and face. There are many fonts available on your computer, including TrueType fonts. Other software programs, such as printer software and desktop publishing software, often include more fonts you can install on your computer.

TrueType fonts are scalable fonts that appear the same on the screen and printer. They work in all Windows software applications. TrueType fonts can be identified by the TT logo by the font name in any font pull-down menu.

When would I use fonts?

Use fonts when you type text into a text editor or word processing program. Choose fonts based on the desired effect and purpose of the document.

Note that the Microsoft Notepad program is storing ASCII text, meaning it does not store any formatting or font information.
