Explorer provides simple methods for duplicating
files and transferring files to different locations.
|
|
|
|
How
do I copy and move files within Windows Explorer?
|
|
|
|
Copy
and move files within a single Windows Explorer
window or from one window to another. Files can
be moved and copied on the same disk, or to a different
disk (including floppy disks.)
|
|
|
|
Drag
and drop using Shift (move) and Ctrl (copy) on the
keyboard or both together to create a shortcut.
|
|
|
|
Drag
and drop an icon (LEFT mouse button):
|
|
|
|
1. Place
the cursor (mouse pointer) over the icon.
|
|
2. Press
the LEFT mouse button, but do not release it
|
|
3. While
holding the mouse button, move the mouse. The selected
icon follows the mouse
motion.
|
|
4. When
the icon is positioned in the desired location –
in another window or on another icon
– release the mouse button.
|
|
|
|
COPY
a file:
|
|
|
|
1. While
pressing the Ctrl key …
|
|
2. …Drag
and drop an icon.
|
|
|
|
MOVE
a file:
|
|
|
|
1. While
pressing the Shift key …
|
|
2. …Drag
and drop an icon.
|
|
|
|
Drag
and drop using the RIGHT mouse button to use a shortcut
menu.
|

Click
items and "Copy" with the Edit menu. Then click
on another folder, and "Paste" or "Paste Shortcut."
|
|
|
|
COPY
a file using the pull-down menu:
|
|
|
|
1. Click
a folder or file icon in Windows Explorer.
|
|
2. Click
the "Edit" menu, then "Copy."
|
|
3. In
the same or a different folder, click the "Edit"
menu again, then "Paste."
|
